CM's 2007 NFL Mock Draft (Round 1)

No, that doesn't mean that I'll fire off all 7 rounds, you a-wholes. This is ol' CM tryin' to get into the minds of the teams makin' the picks this weekend, not necessarily what I'd do,or what they should do, that was covered in my Top 100, but what I think they will do.

1. Oakland - JaMarcus Russell - QB - LSU - Something has to shake Raider Nation out of this malaise that they are in
2. Detroit - Gaines Adams - DE - Clemson - Should take Johnson, but won't (3 #1 pics used on WRs this decade)
3. Cleveland - Brady Quinn - QB - Notre Dame - Owner overrules coach and GM on this one (they want Peterson)
4. Tampa Bay - Calvin Johnson - WR - GTech - Gruden will be beside himself if CJ is still there
5. Arizona - Joe Thomas - OT - Wisc. - It just makes too much sense..Then again, this is the Cardinals we're talkin' about
6. Washington - Amobi Okoye - DT - Lou. - Snyder and co. love to swing for the fences, and all of their LaRon Landry talk is a smokescreen
7. Minnesota - Adrian Peterson - RB - OU - Too good to fall any farther, this is what Mularkey hoped would happen
8. Atlanta - LaRon Landry - FS - LSU - Either the worst kept secret in the draft, or the biggest smokescreen ever
9. Miami - Levi Brown - OT - PSU - The fins need OL help in the worst way, as this one dashes Houston's hopes that Brown would fall
10. Houston - Leon Hall - CB - Michigan - Carr cost you Vince, now Schaub costs you Levi Brown, but Hall is a good consolation prize
11. San Francisco - Jamaal Anderson - DE - Ark. - Mike Nolan thinks Anderson and Manny Lawson will be a dominant pair on the outside
12. Buffalo - Marshawn Lyynch - RB - Cal. - Off field issues aside, the Bills need this cat to come in and start, with McGahee's departure
13. St. Louis - Alan Branch - DT - Michigan - The Rams hope to finally draft a good DT, and playing next to LaRoi Glover will help Branch
14. Carolina - Pat Willis - MLB - Ole Miss - Dan Morgan's concussions have the Cats worried, as this is a great fit
15. Pittsburgh - Paul Posluszny - OLB - PSU - With JPorter gone, this seems like the move
16. Green Bay - Dwayne Jarrett - WR - USC - Of the Sid Rice, Rob Meachem, DBowe trio of WRs, Green Bay likes Jarrett the best
17. Jacksonville - Adam Carriker - DE - Neb. - Finally, a dude to put next to MStroud and JHenderson opposite RHayward
18.Cincinnati - Greg Olson - TE - Miami - With Henry gone for half the year, Palmer could use another target
19. Tennessee - Sidney Rice - WR - SCar. - With WRs Bennett and Wade gone, Rice is perfect to grow w/ Vince Young and LenDale White
20. N.Y. Giants - Chris Houston - CB - Ark. - Pass defense was the G-men's problem last year and Houston will help
21. Denver - Brandon Merriweather - S - Miami - Will start as a free safety, then when John Lynch moves on, he'll be a strong safety
22. Dallas - Ted Ginn - WR - OSU - Not because I want him to go here, but because Jerrol Jones wants to add speed to his team
23. Kansas City - Dwayne Bowe - WR - LSU - KC needs to upgrade its aging passing game, and with no QB worth taking here, Bowe is the guy
24. New England - Darelle Revis - CB - Pitt. - Asanti Samuel wants out, and the secondary is a need area for the Pats
25. NY Jets - Tony Ugoh - OT - Ark. - He will make the switch to the right side opposite D'Brickashaw
26. Philadelphia - Robert Meachem - WR - Tenn. - Basket and Brown are ok, but RMeachem offers the best of both worlds: Speed and size
27. New Orleans - Reggie Nelson - FS - UF - The Saints need to upgrade their secondary and Nelson will help
28. New England - Daymeion Hughes - CB - Cal. - The Pats will convert this guy to safety, and the shit will work; They'd love to have Reggie Nelson tho'
29. Baltimore - Joe Staley - OT - CMich. - Ogden's poppin' off like he might retire, and with no good runner here, this is the next best thing
30. San Diego - Kyle Young - C - Fresno St. - He may move to guard as Turner likes big O-lineman
31. Chicago - Jon Beeson - OLB - Miami - Preparing for life without Lance Briggs
32. Indianapolis - Anthony Spencer - DE - Purdue - From the area, fits the scheme, too good to pass up

There it is, finally over and done........So.....GOOD NIGHT NOW!!!

Weird draft ... I don't think anybody was close after the first few picks. Quinn dropping to the 20's was interesting, as well as the Eagles picking a qb...

I thought Cleveland did well, especially after they fleeced Jerry Jones out of Quinn. But based on his first 6 games last year, Romo is clearly the guy, as long as you ignore his last 5-6 games.

Franchise QBs are rare, and Quinn may not be one, but he was worth a 22 to find out. It will probably work out as well for Dallas as passing on Randy Moss did.
