CM's Quick Hits

The NFL Draft is over and ol' CM didn't fare as well this year, only getting 79 out of the top 100, after 84 in '05 and 82 in '06..........My youngest son asked me what a Maverick was, to which I replied: "A choking, gutless, loser who will never win a championship".....He seemed a little confused by my answer...... Speaking of dealing with your children, I think the press (most notably fatass Nancy Grace) needs to get off of ABaldwin and his private life.....BObama's response to a hypothetical Al Qaeda attack on U.S. soil was laughable, as he feels the first thing we need to do is reach out to the world community for help.....At least HClinton's response was to retaliate immediately......The Dem's platform kills me: Let immigrants in, but we as a nation should drive less and consume less...Allow the killing of unborn humans (abortion), but let adult murderers live as not to lower ourselves to their level.....Delaware Joe Biden's blaming of the Virginia Tech incident on President Bush is a dumb as blaming hurricane Katrina on global warming.....The Pat Tillman affair was completely mishandled by the Army, but using it as another reason to hate Bush is a bit of a contradiction as we have a volunteer only military, and Mr. Tillman showed he was a great American by doing just that and who obviously supported his commander in chief by signing up in the first place....In closing I'd like to say that after years of playing and decades of watching, the Association is now dead to me, joining college basketball in a shallow, unmarked grave....Remember, if you want to hear the musings of a real bitterman, be sure to check out CM's Quick Hits, only on the Deuce.

CM's 2007 NFL Mock Draft (Round 1)

No, that doesn't mean that I'll fire off all 7 rounds, you a-wholes. This is ol' CM tryin' to get into the minds of the teams makin' the picks this weekend, not necessarily what I'd do,or what they should do, that was covered in my Top 100, but what I think they will do.

1. Oakland - JaMarcus Russell - QB - LSU - Something has to shake Raider Nation out of this malaise that they are in
2. Detroit - Gaines Adams - DE - Clemson - Should take Johnson, but won't (3 #1 pics used on WRs this decade)
3. Cleveland - Brady Quinn - QB - Notre Dame - Owner overrules coach and GM on this one (they want Peterson)
4. Tampa Bay - Calvin Johnson - WR - GTech - Gruden will be beside himself if CJ is still there
5. Arizona - Joe Thomas - OT - Wisc. - It just makes too much sense..Then again, this is the Cardinals we're talkin' about
6. Washington - Amobi Okoye - DT - Lou. - Snyder and co. love to swing for the fences, and all of their LaRon Landry talk is a smokescreen
7. Minnesota - Adrian Peterson - RB - OU - Too good to fall any farther, this is what Mularkey hoped would happen
8. Atlanta - LaRon Landry - FS - LSU - Either the worst kept secret in the draft, or the biggest smokescreen ever
9. Miami - Levi Brown - OT - PSU - The fins need OL help in the worst way, as this one dashes Houston's hopes that Brown would fall
10. Houston - Leon Hall - CB - Michigan - Carr cost you Vince, now Schaub costs you Levi Brown, but Hall is a good consolation prize
11. San Francisco - Jamaal Anderson - DE - Ark. - Mike Nolan thinks Anderson and Manny Lawson will be a dominant pair on the outside
12. Buffalo - Marshawn Lyynch - RB - Cal. - Off field issues aside, the Bills need this cat to come in and start, with McGahee's departure
13. St. Louis - Alan Branch - DT - Michigan - The Rams hope to finally draft a good DT, and playing next to LaRoi Glover will help Branch
14. Carolina - Pat Willis - MLB - Ole Miss - Dan Morgan's concussions have the Cats worried, as this is a great fit
15. Pittsburgh - Paul Posluszny - OLB - PSU - With JPorter gone, this seems like the move
16. Green Bay - Dwayne Jarrett - WR - USC - Of the Sid Rice, Rob Meachem, DBowe trio of WRs, Green Bay likes Jarrett the best
17. Jacksonville - Adam Carriker - DE - Neb. - Finally, a dude to put next to MStroud and JHenderson opposite RHayward
18.Cincinnati - Greg Olson - TE - Miami - With Henry gone for half the year, Palmer could use another target
19. Tennessee - Sidney Rice - WR - SCar. - With WRs Bennett and Wade gone, Rice is perfect to grow w/ Vince Young and LenDale White
20. N.Y. Giants - Chris Houston - CB - Ark. - Pass defense was the G-men's problem last year and Houston will help
21. Denver - Brandon Merriweather - S - Miami - Will start as a free safety, then when John Lynch moves on, he'll be a strong safety
22. Dallas - Ted Ginn - WR - OSU - Not because I want him to go here, but because Jerrol Jones wants to add speed to his team
23. Kansas City - Dwayne Bowe - WR - LSU - KC needs to upgrade its aging passing game, and with no QB worth taking here, Bowe is the guy
24. New England - Darelle Revis - CB - Pitt. - Asanti Samuel wants out, and the secondary is a need area for the Pats
25. NY Jets - Tony Ugoh - OT - Ark. - He will make the switch to the right side opposite D'Brickashaw
26. Philadelphia - Robert Meachem - WR - Tenn. - Basket and Brown are ok, but RMeachem offers the best of both worlds: Speed and size
27. New Orleans - Reggie Nelson - FS - UF - The Saints need to upgrade their secondary and Nelson will help
28. New England - Daymeion Hughes - CB - Cal. - The Pats will convert this guy to safety, and the shit will work; They'd love to have Reggie Nelson tho'
29. Baltimore - Joe Staley - OT - CMich. - Ogden's poppin' off like he might retire, and with no good runner here, this is the next best thing
30. San Diego - Kyle Young - C - Fresno St. - He may move to guard as Turner likes big O-lineman
31. Chicago - Jon Beeson - OLB - Miami - Preparing for life without Lance Briggs
32. Indianapolis - Anthony Spencer - DE - Purdue - From the area, fits the scheme, too good to pass up

There it is, finally over and done........So.....GOOD NIGHT NOW!!!

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 1-10

That's right, it's holy grail time, folks. These cats are expected to be cornerstones of a franchise, as we check out the top 10 players on CM's big board:

1. Calvin Johnson - 6-4 - 230 - WR - GTech - Level; Big man with sprinter's speed (4.3 40) and great character; Not only did he start day one, he was the focus on day one; The total package with only one "weakness": Small hands (9 3/4 inches across); Somehow, some team will just have to live wit dat, I guess
2. Gaines Adams - 6-5 - 265 - DE - Clemson - Level; Would've been a top 10 pick last year, so with 16 sacks this year he's the best defender on the board; Reminds many of Chris Doleman, and that's pretty damn good
3. JaMarcus Russell - 6-6 - 252 - QB - LSU - Rising; Obviously better than that dumbass Ryan Perriloux thought, Russell is one of CM's I told you so joints; Great release, arm strength and size, augmented by good mobility; There is big debate on how good he was in big games, as some watched the Sugar Bowl vs. Notre Dame and used that as the barometer, while others point to the fact that he threw more INTs than TDs against .500 or better teams; I think he's a lil' green, but his upside is resickulous
4. Adrian Peterson - 6-2 - 218 - RB - OU - Level; If you draft based on how he looks in his uniform, AD would go 1st overall in ANY draft (I used to look like that 10 yrs ago....kinda, ok, a tinge); This dude has breakaway speed, great power, excellent hands and superb balance; My only concern is the injury factor, as he has missed time more than once and his long stride can lead to more injuries (see Robert Smith, a great player when healthy); If he stays healthy, he is a lock for 1500 yards rushing a season and about 400 more receiving
5. Brady Quinn - 6-4 - 231 - QB - Notre Dame - Level; BQuinn has got everything you look for in a QB: Size, arm strength, poise, smarts and pedigree, so why isn't he rated higher ? The essence of the NFL Draft is potential, people, that's why. Some feel he is as good as he'll ever be, whereas the others ahead of him are thought to still be on the rise as players. I personally believe Detroit would be stupid to pass on Quinn at 2, but they haven't had a good QB since Bobby Layne (50 yrs ago) and they haven't been contenders either so they probably will pass on him and then we'll see how dumb Cleveland is
6. Joe Thomas - 6-8 - 306 - LT - Wisc. - Level; Great size and ability, as ol' JT just needs to get stronger; Tore his ACL or he would've been a top 5 pick in last year's draft, this former DE has great feet and long arms to go with a frame that could hold about 25 more lbs if needed
7. Amobi Okoye - 6-1 - 312 - DT - Louisville - Rising; 19 year old kid with great leadership skills and a high motor; I love his smarts (will graduate before playing in the NFL) and quickness ( 7.2 in the cone drill, 4.02 in the shuttle), he could end up having a 16 year career or flame out very quickly as his body is still maturing; Solid citizen with a bright future in whatever field he ends up in
8. LaRon Landry - 6-2 - 204 - FS - LSU - Rising; You have to be a stud if you are a safety in the top 10, and LaRon is a badass; Great blitzer, heavy hitter with very good speed; Has great instincts and knowledge of how to get guys lined up in the right place; An uncanny knack for big plays, this dude can really bring it
9. Pat Willis - 6-2 - 230 - MLB - Mississippi - Level; Another one of CM's I told you so picks as he is shooting up most people's boards right now, whereas I always had him in the top 10; The ultimate tackling machine, this cat plays hurt and plays well, regardless of the situation or the personnel around him; Over 300 career tackles at Ole Miss, PWillis is a guy you build defenses around; He can absolutely hold up in the middle, but moving him outside might not be a bad idea as he can really pursue
10. Alan Branch - 6-6 - 311 - DT - Mich. - Falling; Giant man with very good mobility for his size; There are motor questions (but most big men in any sport have motor questions) and production questions (which baffles me when it comes to 1 tech or nose tackle types as they don't make a ton of tackles because of constant double teams); This guy is a real polarizing player in that some believe he will be dominant and others see him as a bust in waiting; He played on a great defense so I think it will take him some time, but he definitely has the goods

There it is people, the 100 best according to CM's big board of NFL Draft fun. This is not where I think these guys will land, because some teams have specific needs, and others are just plain stupid, and don't know what they need.

Tomorrow: CM's 2007 1st round mock draft

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 11-20

After this, it's uno mas, as the countdown continues, these dudes are expected to start quickly and make Pro Bowls, this is numbers 11 through 20:

11. Leon Hall - 5-11 - 191 - CB - Michigan - Level; Fast, physical and productive, LHall is the best CB in the '07 Draft
12. Marshawn Lynch - 5-11 - 223 - RB - Cal - Level; Put together well enough to return kickoffs, Lynch is the 2nd best back on the board in '07
13. Levi Brown - 6-5 - 324 - LT - PSU - Rising; True LT is coveted by Carolina and Houston; Day one starter
14. Greg Olsen - 6-5 - 252 - TE - Miami - Rising; Combine genius (4.49 40, no drops in pass catching drills) is thought to be "Shockeyesque"
15. Jamaal Anderson - 6-6 - 268 - DE - Ark. - Rising; Long striding former WR has the look of the prototype RE; The 2nd best DE on the board
16. Adam Carriker - 6-6 - 280 - DE - Neb. - Level; Former QB can throw a football 80 yards, and is also thought to be the prototype LE
17. Paul Posluszny - 6-2 - 238 - OLB - PSU - Falling; Only in the eyes of scouts is he falling because he was thought to be a 4.5 guy, when he is really closer to 4.6. Whatever, I love his toughness and solid tackling ability, and 4.6 is fast enough, Goddamnit!
18. Sidney Rice - 6-3 - 200 - WR - S.Car. - Level; Super productive, catches the ball over -the- shoulder- while- going- forward cat (trust me, that's a highly regarded skill, people) with good size
19. Ted Ginn - 6-0 - 170 - WR - OSU - Falling; Slightly built but with blazing speed and big mitts (10 3/4 inches across), I pray he is there when the Cowboys pick
20. Dewayne Jarrett - 6-5 - 210 - WR - USC - Level; As predicted here if he ran a 4.4 at the combine, he'd be a top 10 pick, but at 4.6 he'll have to settle for about 4-5 million up front instead of 8-9. He absolutely torched Leon Hall (CM's#1 CB) in the Rose Bowl a few years ago

Mmmm hmm. Only one mo' left people, one mo'.

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 21-30

Trudging along, it's on to numbers 21-30 in our countdown, as more of these cats will be counted on to contribute right away.

21. Brandon Merriweather - 6-0 - 188 - SS - Miami - Rising; Called by many a great cover safety, this dude also has the ability to knife through on running plays and is a great tackler
22. Justin Blaylock - 6-4 - 329 - T/G - UT - Level; 4 year starter was a RT at UT who may make the move inside to guard; Offense primarily ran to his side with great success
23. Reggie Nelson - 6-1 - 198 - SS - UF - Rising; Big hitter has borderline corner coverage skills and could make the move to free safety in the show
24. Anthony Spencer - 6-3 - 261 - DE - Purdue - Rising; Another one of these 3-4 type OLBs, who could be a 4-3 RE in some schemes; Gave All-World OT Joe Thomas some difficulty in pass rush situations
25. Robert Meachem - 6-3 - 210 - WR - Tenn. - Rising; Big cat; Good hands, decent speed. Started fast in '06's opener against Cal and kept on throughout the season
26. Darrelle Revis - 6-0 - 190 - CB - Pitt. - Rising; Outstanding punt returner has nose for the ball, my only question is how smoothly does he come in and out of breaks, i.e. is he "twisty-turny" enough?
27. Chris Houston - 5-11 - 178 - CB - Ark. - Rising; Speedy, press coverage specialist with great closing burst
28. Rufus Alexander - 6-1 - 231 - LB - OU - Falling; This is higher than most have him, but the dude never stops and always plays hard (see 2004 National title game when his teammates quit vs.USC, but he opted to keep ballin')
29. Daymeion Hughes - 6-2 - 188 - CB - Cal - Falling; 4.56 40 at the combine hurt him dearly, but college LCB should be able to become a zone RCB in the pros. Very productive 3 year starter
30. Tony Ugoh - 6-5 - 304 - OT - Ark. - Rising; Long armed, prototype LT is a powerful player who led Arkansas in pancake blocks for two consecutive years

Yep yep, there it is and only 2 more of these to go. God bless and thanks for comin' out.

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 31-40

On into the 1st as CM's endless player profiles continue. Today: Players 31-40

31. Zach Miller - 6-5 - 262 - TE - ASU - Falling; Thought by many to be the 2nd TE in a two TE class (not by me tho'), this cat has been a starter from day one but his combine performance was a lil' shaky (4.79 40)
32. Lamarr Woodley - 6-1 - 268 - DE - Mich. - Falling; Sackmiester is thought to be short and slow for DE, but perfect for 3-4 OLB; Super productive
33. Joe Staley - 6-5 - 299 - OT - C Mich. - Rising; Only player on the list I haven't seen play, but former TE runs a 4.7 4o and bench presses 225 35 times; Said to be a gifted pass protector who had daily battles with teammate Daniel Bauzin (DE) who holds the MAC sack record and will be drafted as well
34. Jon Beason - 6-0 - 233 - OLB - Mia. - Rising; Former DB has blazing speed (4.44 in the 40) and fits the UM profile: He can really run and really hit
35. Dwayne Bowe - 6-3 - 217 - WR - LSU - Rising; Big dude with hops and body control, much like the entire LSU WR corps, he was plagued by dropped passes; Reminds some of T.O. because of his RAC ability
36. Tank Tyler - 6-2 - 305 - DT - NC St. - Rising; Disruptive "3 tech" player (this draft is full of 'em) with good quicks, leverage and pass rush abilities
37. Kyle Young - 6-5 - 330 - C - Fresno St. - Rising; 4yr starter; 3 time All WAC, an outstanding prospect rated this low only because of his position (center)
38. Anthony Gonzalez - 6-0 - 195 - WR - OSU - Rising; Early entry player with 4.29 speed and ability to thrive as a # 2 receiver; Good toughness and hands; High riser
39. Marcus McCauley - 6-1 - 205 - CB - Fresno St. - Rising; Big corner with decent ball skills and long arms; Had a great '06
40. Lawrence Timmons - 6-3 - 230 - OLB - FSU - Falling; Early entry shot up draft boards, then went to the combine and was not that great in workouts; He does stand out on film and had a productive '06

3 more of these left people, then I'll get back to the news of the day.

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 41-50

Rolling on into the 40's , it's CM's continuing preview of the best draft eligible collegians, starting wif number 41:

41. HB Blades - 6-0 - 240 - MLB - Pitt. - Rising; All Big East 3 years; The proverbial "tackling machine", if you will, comes from a football family in Miami
42. Samson Satele - 6-3 - 311 - C/G - UH - Rising; Typical Hawaiian player, strong ( 600 bench), quick and tenacious; Would have been a 3rd rounder if he came out last year
43. David Patterson - 6-3 - 285 - DT - OSU - Rising; Overshadowed by Quinn Pitcock, it turns out that Patterson was the better player, showing good pass rushing skills
44. Jarvis Moss - 6-6 - 252 - DE - Fla. - Rising; This is much lower than most have him, as I only see him as a very gifted situational pass rusher. He does have the capacity to get bigger, and that may tell the long term tale with him
45. Aaron Ross - 6-1 - 192 - CB - UT - Falling; Again, he is rated higher by most, but I have seen this guy get burned by non NFL types; He is a RCB (backside zone corner) for sure, but can hit so hard that safety may be his final destination. Explosive athlete
46. Drew Stanton - 6-3 - 230 - QB - MSU - Rising; John L. Smith's offense at Michigan State was absolutely bogus, and this big armed kid will thrive in a better system with better coaching
47. Mason Crosby - 6-2 - 210 - K - CU - Falling; Awful at the combine, but the NFL loves big leg kickers
48. Kevin Kolb - 6-3 - 225 - QB - Houston - Level; Brilliant as a Freshman, this kid has a big arm and underrated mobilty
49. Dan Mozes - 6-4 - 290 - G/C - WVA - Level; 3 yr starter was All Big East and a 2 time All American; Very versatile, can play any o-line position; Was the key to WVA's spread option attack, making all the o-line calls and adjustments
50. Anthony Waters - 6-3 - 245 - MLB - Clem. - Level; 3 yr starter would have been an NFL draft pick in '06 had he come out; Super productve player with over 30 tackles for loss in his career

There you have it, as we inch towards the first round, another 10 block of CM's football knowledge.Keep....Hell, start readin' for that matter as the draft is just around the cona..

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 51-60

Keep and continue, people, keep and continue. Grinding our way through, we touch on players 51-60.

51. Jason Hill - 6-0 - 210 - WR - WSU - Falling; Thought to be a 1st rounder before '06, Hill is still a productive deep threat who ran a 4.34 40 at the combine
52. Will Herring - 6-3 - 220 - LB - Aub. - Rising; Former QB led team in tackles in '05, can play some safety and was All SEC
53. Clark Harris - 6-6 - 255 - TE - Rutgers - Rising; This TE draft is not as bad some people think, and Harris is way better than people realize, as he has good speed and hands
54. Eric Wright - 5-10 - 192 - CB - UNLV - Rising; USC transfer has great speed and quicks
55. Arron Sears - 6-4 - 320 - T/G - Tenn. - Falling; Played tackle at TU but combine measurements (short arms) project this All SEC player to guard in the NFL
56. Mike Griffin - 6-0 - 205 - FS - Texas - Rising; Center field type made many huge plays while at UT but had his share of mentals (mistakes); Very good athlete
57. Quentin Moses - 6-5 - 250 - DE - UGA - Falling; Thought to be a 1st rounder coming into '06, but lack of production caused him to slip. He was, however, dominating in the postseason
58. Marcus Thomas - 6-3 - 290 - DT - Fla. - Level; Good pass rusher, very active, but can he play the run effectively in the show?
59. John Wade - 5-11 - 190 - CB - Tenn. - Level; Former WR has blazing speed (4.25 40) and good ball skills
60. John Talley - 5-11 - 180 - CB - Duke - Rising; This is waaaay higher than anyone else has him, but all he does is make plays (7 picks in '06; 5 in '05)

There you have it, another example of this blog being a clearing house for CM's predictions.

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 61-70

Creepin' into the ass end of the 2nd round, it's players 61-70 on CM's board, complete wit commentary and the CM o' meter (rising, falling, level).

61. Justin Harrell - 6-4 -300 - DT - Tenn. - Level; Commanded double teams, yet still was consistently around the ball, prototype "3 tech" DT
62. Ryan Kalil - 6-3 - 285 - C - USC - Level; 3 year starter, 2 time All American is a good pass protector with skills found in most West Coast offenses (trapping, man blocking)
63. Eric Weddle - 6-0 - 200 - CB/S - Utah - Rising; Do it all player who held Charles Johnson (#1 on CM's board) to 2 catches in '05, can play safety or corner
64. CJ Ah You - 6-4 - 265 - DE - OU - Rising; Active pass rusher is very effective vs. the run and consitently gets his hands up in passing lanes
65. Brian Daniels - 6-4 - 300 - OG - CU - Rising; 4 yr starter on a Buffs team dedicated to running the ball effectively, 3 time All Big 12
66. Tim Crowder - 6-4 - 270 - DE - UT - Rising; Great against the run, not a lot of sacks, but if he can flip to the stongside (LE) he can be a great asset to any D-line
67. Sabby Piscitelli - 6-3 - 226 - SS - Or. St. - Rising; Big cat can cover ground (you have to be able to in the Pac 10) and should be a demon on special teams as a rook
68. Aaron Rouse - 6-4 - 221 - S/LB - VTech - Rising; Played the "Bandit" position, kind of a rover type which keys off of the offense's strong side, and was involved heavily in pass coverage
69. Jon Abbate - 5-11 - 245 - MLB - Wake Forest - Falling; Weight room beast, with 40yd dash questions (is he 4.7 or 4.5 ?); Super productive 3 yr starter (left as a Junior); A poor man's Zac Thomas
70. Brian Leonard - 6-2 - 235 - RB - Rutgers - Rising; Perfect fit as a West Coast fullback can run, catch and block a lil'; Was a lead runner until Raymell Rice showed up and he (Leonard) moved to fullback

There it is, we've cracked the 2nd round and only 60 players remain, so hold on for dear life as we have 10 days until the draft.

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 71-80

Working our way through this thing as we creep towards the 2nd round, it's numbers 71 thru 80, people, so wake up and pay attention.

71. DeAndre Jackson - 6-1 - 190 - CB - ISU - Level; Played opposite a freshman, so didn't see a ton of passes; Consistent All Big 12 performer
72. Mkristo Bruce - 6-6 - 255 - DE - WSU - Level; Another Pac 10 pass rusher and All Conf. performer w/ high motor
73. CJ Gaddis - 6-0 - 210 - CB - Clem. - Level; Former QB made the switch and now leaves early after solid '06
74. Jarrett Hicks - 6-3 - 208 - WR - Texas Tech - Falling; Thought to be the best WR in the Big 12 as a soph., # of catches steadily decreased in 05-06
75. Steve Smith - 6-0 - 195 - WR - USC - Rising; Very productive, ran a 4.38 at the combine, and believe me, that helps
76. Kenny Irons - 5-11 - 200 - RB - Aub. - Falling ; Led the SEC in rushing in '05, but can he be a down in, down out guy in the show?
77. Oscar Lua - 6-1 - 240 - MLB - USC - Level; Good tackler took over for Tatupu, and was pushed by Maualuga, but he can play
78. Matt Spaeth - 6-6 - 270 - TE - Minn. - Level; All Big 10 (2yrs); Scouts love his size for blocking, but dude can catch a lil' (100 catches in 4yrs)
79. Earl Everett - 6-2 - 231 - OLB - Fla. - Level; Speedy All SEC player was 3 year starter on a defense loaded w/ talent; Can cover most backs
80. Daniel Sepulveda - 6-2 - 225 - P - Baylor - Rising; The nation's best punter is a good athlete (4.5 40) who Guy Morriss called the best linebacker on the team, but opted to restrict him to punting

What's interesting to note is the clearly defined roles of these players as we continue up the board. They're ranked higher, so they are more of a finished product.

CM's NFL Draft Top 100: 81-90

Continuing to continue the continuum, we now move to players #81 - 90 in CM's never ending 2007 NFL Draft ramp up, complete wif rising/falling/level rating:

81. Dedrick Harrington - 6-4 - 240 - MLB - Mizzou - Level; Former WR is a good tackler w/nose for the ball
82. Victor Abiamiri - 6-4 - 260 - DE - Notre Dame - Level; Highly regarded coming in (#1 DE in the USA), was a solid perfomer on a bad defense
83. Joel Filani - 6-3 - 214 - WR - Texas Tech - Level; Good in traffic, not a burner, could he hold 235 lbs and be an H- Back?
84. Dallas Sartz - 6-5 -240 - S/LB - USC - Level; Tweener projects to OLB in the pros; decent athlete
85. Alley Broussard - 6-0 - 237 - RB - LSU - Rising; Another big back in a weak RB class, ACL (knee) injury in 2005 or he'd be higher
86. Jeff Perrett - 6-7 - 329 - RT - Tulsa - Level; 4 yr starter at RT was already drafted by the CFL, and he will bust your ass (over 100 pancakes in 05-06)
87. Trent Edwards - 6-4 - 220 - QB - Stanford - Rising; Some rate him as the 3rd best QB in this class, not me. He is a first day guy f' sho tho'
88. Andrew Carnahan - 6-8 - 300 - RT - ASU - Level; Carny has game, but although he started at LT as a redshirt freshman, he is better at RT and needs to get stronger
89. Brandon Mebane - 6-3 - 306 - DT - Cal. - Level; Pac 10 DTs are usually good pass rushers and BM is no different. A definite "3" technique guy
90. Tony Hunt - 6-2 - 230 - RB - PSU - Level; Former WR runs a lil' high, but you know he can catch, and was productive (3000 career rush yards and 80 catches). If guys like him turn out good, then maybe this RB class isn't as bad as people think

Yep, yep, there you have it, we've made our way through the ass end of the third round, and only 80 player evaluations left. Rip a rail, tap a rig, have a belt, and do whatever it takes to get through this, as it ain't gonna never stop.

Oh Goody!!! CM's Top 100 (91-100)

How do you devalue a blog with no value? Sports, that's how. That's right people, my 2007 NFL Draft preview is up and going and it jumps off with the top 100, by tens of course. Also included is a rising/falling or level rating along wif commentary

91. Ryan Moore - 6-3 215 - WR - Miami - Falling; Injuries/Off field issues
92. Nate Harris - 6-1 235 - MLB - L'Ville - Level; Small for a Mike
93. Garland Heath - 6-2 - 225 - SS - NCSt - Level; Big for a SS
94. James Marten - 6-8 - 315 - G - BC - Falling; Another tweener(G/T)
95. Johnnie Lee Higgins - 6-0 - 180 -WR -UTEP - Level; One trick pony has 4.18 speed in the 40
96. DeShawn Wynn - 5-11 - 232 - RB - Fla. - Falling; Big back w/ stamina issues
97.Tyler Palko 6-2 - 220 - QB Pitt. - Level; Got off to the great start in '04, is he a pus arm?
98. Matt Herian - 6-5 - 245 - TE - Neb. - Falling; All Big 12 in '03, broke leg in '04, needs to get stronger
99. Garrett Wolfe - 5-7 - 173 - RB - N.Ill. - Level; 4.4 40, he's just so tiny
100. Matt Trannon - 6-6 - 227 - WR - MSU - Rising; Basketball player with football skills, could he be a TE?

There you have it. What's interesting to note here is the preponderance of "tweeners", cats not big enough for one position, or not fast enough for another. Also, some of these players are either too small (Wolfe) or size (Marten) is their most (and in some cases only) outstanding plus.

The NYC point guard

New York City, much like Texas in football, puts out the most skilled basketballers and the MOST basketballers in the world. All types and positions, from Cousy to Jabbar, Hawkins to Erving, Nate Archibald and on and on. Let's look at the point guard position, where the last 3 NYC phenoms have been slightly disappointing. Kenny Anderson: The most heralded NYC schoolboy player since Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) was selected as one of the best 5 high school players in America....as a JUNIOR. Bounced around the league, made a stack of cash, but not really an impact guy as was anticipated. Stephon Marbury: From a basketball family, this cat is a physically gifted dude with 20 - 10 (points and assists) ability who, like Anderson, has bounced around the league, and can't seem to make his team any better. I do admire his line of shoes, reasonably priced at $15 ,addressing a real urban social ill, the overpriced basket ball shoe. If Marbury would play defense and pass first, he'd be ok, and I know he has the ability to do so. The latest in line is the super quick, ball handling genius, Sebastian Telfair. Only 21, he is already on his 2nd team and is struggling to develop. The Celtics are giving him 20-22 minutes a game, and while those aren't starter's minutes, they are still enough to show more than he is (6 pts, 2 asts). The book is closed on Anderson, is closing on Marbury, and if Telfair can't get it going in Boston (a dismal, but young and semi talented bunch), it will close on him as well. NYC will crank out another phenom at some point, they've got it like that, and I'll probably buy in, just not with as much zeal in the past, at least until he shows and proves.

Douche o' the week

That's right folks it's time for Douche of the week, the deuce's spin on other cyber-segments such as A-hole of the week, Genius to Moron, Jackass of the week, and countless others. There are many candidates so let's get to them:
1. Nancy Pelosi - Her hoo bangin' tour of the middle east was an abject failure on many levels
2. Danny Fortson - The Seattle Supersonics player who missed a road trip because he was afraid the abscess in his tooth would explode on the team plane, sending pus flying all over the cabin
3. Don Imus - The unfunniest man in radio shows us all why he is so unfunny referring to the Rutgers women's basketball team as a "bunch of nappy headed hos"
4. Rick Gosselin - The Dallas Morning News NFL beat writer for doing a story on how NFL scouts love the 4 year starter on the O-line in the Sunday, April 8th Dallas Morning News sports section, 9 days AFTER CM's March 30th NFL draft post which ended with the statement "NFL scouts love the 4 year starter at O-line"

And the winner is : Rick Gosselin, the plagiarizing Dallas Morning News beat writer and Jammy 2 reader who obviously knows where to steal his draft insight from.

Pelosi: I'm a feminist, but not when chillin' wif U.S. enemies

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who made sure to remind every one of the struggle for women's rights when she took the position, was in Saudi Arabia continuing her tour of the middle east, which kicked off in Syria. Not only that, she sported a birka ( the traditional face hiding garb of middle eastern women, which I may have misspelled) and kissed the ring of the Syrian leader. So she gives the U.S. the finger by going, which is bad enough, then she says fuck the struggle, I'll go ahead take on the subordinate position which women are afforded in the middle east, if that is what I have to do to stick it to the president. ReGoddamndickulous. If you dislike 43 or disagree with his policy, fine, but don't go hang out with people who help kill Americans and wish all Americans were dead. It's amazing that some dumbasses hate Bush so much that they wish we would lose, or quit, just to spite him. If you hate Bush more than you love America YOU ARE A FUCKING DOUCHE.

Sacre Bleu!!!!

Over at http://www.breitbart.com/ the French are smellin' themselves over the fact that they and not the Germans, not the Italians and most importantly not the Americans, have produced the world's fastest train, clockin' in at a robust 360 mph. This will look nice in the record books next to the other speed record the Francophiles own: World's fastest surrender. Well done, France. Now, when the Moroccans and Algerians invade and take over, they'll be able to cross the country in record time.
