21 days.......You can feel the apathy building

Three weeks since my last post and the number of shits given is a robust zero......What's been happ'nen? Gas prices is up, I'm in the transportation business, so I'm having less loot these days which blows when you have kids, as they tend to suck up cash constantly, what with their eating and demands of shelter, entertainment and clothing and so forth...The Mavs are a diseased, slowly dying organism, whilst the Rangers are a rapidly decaying carcass....The Stars are playing as good as I've ever seen, and what better place to extract that Red Wings curse than in the Campbell Conference Finals?.....Sega gamers and ol' time (1990's) hockey fans will get that reference.....The Cowboys had a nice haul at the NFL entry draft, as they got at least 4 (some say 5) cats that can ball: Felix Jones (speedy, shifty, and doesn't fumble much)...Mike Jenkins (playmaker reportedly has the endorsement of Herm Edwards, Tony Dungy and Deion Sanders)
Martellus Bennett (a 6-7 man child underutilized at A & M, with sick ability)....Orlando Scandrick
(speed and specialty teams ability)...With more Pro Bowlers drafted since 2000, it's hard to question the Philly Eagles talent evaluators, but DeShawn Jackson is a little man who runs crappy routes....Not what the WR starved Eagles need, another, skinny target fo' McNabb...The Gints of NY had a good draft doe, as The U's Kenny Phillips is a baller who will help dat secondry....Like that Irish bastard said in The Departed: "This is America....Make more money!" I needs to do just dat, y'all, Peace...

Of the top 5, I see only one can't miss

The NFL Draft. A loss of life force for some, but a red letter day for football geeks like me. These are the top 5 prospects in this year's draft, and in my opinion, only one is a sure thing. Here they are:

1. Chris Long - DE - UVA - At 6-4 and 284 lbs, he can play outside or inside, in the 4-3 0r as a backside (right) end in a 3-4. His best position would be at LE in a 4-3. The kid is put together like a bodybuilder, and is a real down in down out competitor.
2. Darren McFadden - RB - Ark. - Corner turning speed, great hands, an absolute game breaker. However, when I look at him, I see leg injuries plaguing him throughout his career. Building a running game around him is very risky, as NFL defenders are nasty bastards.
3. Jake Long - OT - Mich.- Prototype size (6-7, 320), a three year starter, and playing in the Big 10, you know he can run block. The problem is he is being hyped as a left tackle, when he'd be much better on the right. Right tackles, however ,don't go in the top 5. I worry about his ability to deal with speed rushers. OSU's Vernon Gholston (the best speed rusher in this year's draft) and former Purdue DE (and current Dallas Cowboy) Charles Spencer gave him some trouble when he matched up with them.
4. Glenn Dorsey - DT - LSU - A great workout guy, willing to play with pain, I just wonder if a guy that misses time in college will suddenly be durable in the pros. He compares favorably to LaRoi Glover, I just wonder if he'll be able to hold up in the pros injury wise. Talent is not his problem.
5. Matt Ryan - QB - BC - "Matty Ice", as his teammates call him is another in a long line of Pennsylvania QBs, which is a good thing. Good leader, had good workouts on his pro days, but his rise can be traced to the fall of more highly regarded prospects like UL's Brian Brohm, UH's Colt Brennan and TU's Erik Ainge. Even though he was all ACC as a junior, it was a terrible year for QB's in 2006, as Miami, FSU, VTech, and UVA all had QB issues. In other words, he is kind of the "default" guy if you will, in a below average QB draft. He can get it done, but he's not a star in my eyes.

Obviously, I think Chris Long is the only sure thing in this draft, but y'know what? Emmitt Smith was too slow, and Tom Brady couldn't even beat out Drew Henson at Michigan. I have a feeling that there will be some good players to be had even in this draft.

Barry Obamer

Much has been made about Barak Obama (or Barry Obamer as Ted Kennedy calls him) and his association with JWright, a controversial, firebrand of a pastor at BHO's church. Now, obviously, African Americans and Anglo Americans have differing views on America and its greatness, and rightfully so. JWright had some pretty damning comments about America in a recent sermon. BHO has distanced from some of JWright's comments, but not the man himself. Sticking with your friends is a good thing, however, here's the rub, Barry: Regardless of the media's wishes, you're going to need the white guy vote to win this thing. One thing white guy voter doesn't dig is anti-American sentiment, regardless of the back story (slavery, racial injustice, etc.). As stated here in 2007 (Why color is a factor) BHO's greenness, not his blackness would probably be the "color" that would keep him out of the White House, and that lack of experience is showing in his refusal to distance completely from ol' JWright.

CM's outward sports contradictions

I hate the Eagles, yet I watch Invincible constantly. Great film.

I hate the Oklahoma Sooners more than any college team, yet I believe Bob Stoops is the finest college football coach in the country. When my sons ask me what a college football coach looks like, I'll begrudgingly point to Stoops. He's classy, plus his favorite food is steak, and as he says: "I don't feel any explanation is necessary on that one"

I hate the Packers as well, hell I hate all NFL teams not named the Dallas Cowboys, yet Brett Favre is hands down the most talented QB I've ever seen. Great arm, great release, good size, good speed, and tougher than a government mule. Looking at him in the huddle, you have to think you've always got a chance. Montana and Unitas were geniuses, Bradshaw and Aikman are big horses with big arms, Tom Brady and Roger Staubach are cool under pressure, Marino and Fouts are brilliant pure passers. John Elway is the only one that compares to Favre physically, and Favre has a better arm and is a lil' quicker than Elway. Plus he never misses games....Ever.

The 2007 NY Giants were the best team in football. No lucky bounces, no bullshit calls, they earned that ring...My hatred for them goes without saying.

The Redskin cheerleaders are better looking than the Cowboys' cheerleaders. Watch the sidelines of Redskin games if you get a chance, they have one in particular that makes me excuse myself for 3.6 minutes, then return to watching the game not as interested in her as before, then after a hoagie, I regain interest...Again, I have a deep hatred of the Redskins.

All of the Boston Mass.(BC, Celtics, Pats, BoSox) hype gets on my nerves, but my travels around the nation tell me they have the best fans, edging out New York,Philly and Chicago. All of the winning makes them cocksuckers tho'.....But I ain't bitter.

The 49ers are quite bi-curious as well, yet Bill Walsh's offense is my Bible of the passing game.

LeBron James seems like a better, more likable human than Kobe Bryant, (James's son is named Maximus) but for the past 3 years and for the forseeable future, Kobe is the best player in the world. His ability to handle the basketball is the key to his game. You could vote him or Tim Duncan MVP every year, and I wouldn't have a problem wid it.

Remember, when you want to see....Aww fuck it, my recurring cybersegments end up failing any way (It's good to be the King, anybody, anybody?)

Madden '08 update:Draft and Free Agent flurry makes CM's Texans contenders

After surging to a 9-7 record in 2008, narrowly missing the playoffs, CM's cyber Texans have added LT Kyle Schaffer, and DT Albert Haynesworth in free agency, to go along with draft day deals that netted RB Jerrious Norwood, DE Gaines Adams and the biggest prize: QB JaMarcus Russell. The O line and linebackers and secondary were addressed in the draft, with speed being the objective. The only drawback is that we will be over the cap in 2010. Oh well, the future is now.

Disclaimer: Just like no one cares about fantasy football, the apathy towards gamers is off the chain.

Here's the latest on my Madden 2008 rebuilding project, The Houston Texans: I've converted the defense to a 4-3, gave up picks (a 2nd and 3rd rounder, plus Kailee Wong) to acquire Denver DE Jarvis Moss and Carolina CB Chris Gamble, to add some speed on the edge, and signed FA MLB Al Wilson, so I could move DeMeco Ryans to the out side. This has worked as the defense is extremely quick, and Mario Williams and Moss are the fastest DEs in the league. The offense has been very below average. The offensive line is old and mediocre, and Ahman Green is a fumbling, injury prone bastard. I'll revamp that area in the off season. Andre Johnson is the only bright spot, as Matt Schaub is average at best. At this rate I'll be picking high in the draft, as our record through 4 weeks is 1-3. I'll most likely have a fire sale at the trade deadline to acquire more picks and get out from under some bad contracts, as former GM Charley Casserly left this thing a complete mess. The Stevo can attest to that.

Prince Harry: Clearly not an English homo

Prince Harry, third in line to the throne of England and seemingly in a position to avoid hazardous military duty, is on the front lines in Afghanistan, handling his business. America clearly has what it takes to go it alone in the war on terror, but it sure does feel good having merry ol' England in the mix, not to mention the deployment of their best and brightest as pictured here. Hell, Harry was pissed that he didn't get to go to Iraq. Props to you Harry, and the U.K. as well, as obviously, they aren't paper mache'.
