there's a theory out there that Big Oil sponsors the green organizations (which they do) in order to hinder drilling & refining and drive up the cost of oil. It would explain quite a bit i.e. Al Gore's family is deep in Occidental Petroleum's pocket and he doesn't seem to actually care about reducing his own energy consumption contra Ed Begley Jr.
